From Armour to Algorithms: The Transformation of Military Vehicle Technology

The Society of Mobility Engineers - Australasia is very pleased to present its upcoming webinar exploring The Transformation of Military Vehicle Technology and the increasing complexity of designing, integrating and sustaining these advanced platforms.

The modern military vehicle is no longer simply a protected means of transport. It is becoming a mobile power station, sensor platform, communications node, software system, weapons carrier and maintenance data source. This evolution requires engineers to balance traditional priorities such as mobility, protection and firepower with electrical power demand, signatures, communications, cybersecurity, autonomy, maintainability and rapid technology insertion.

Our presenter, Dr Paul Nation, works within the Australian Department of Defence as a lead test and evaluation engineer providing internal consultancy advice to automotive projects and activities.

The session will explore how open-system initiatives, including NATO Generic Vehicle Architecture, are enabling electronic subsystems to be integrated and upgraded without requiring the entire vehicle to be redesigned.

Topics presented will include:

• The impossible military vehicle
• Mobility, propulsion and power
• Survivability in a transparent battlefield
• The vehicle as a digital combat system
• Autonomy and human–machine teaming
• Payloads, weapons and vehicle teaming
• Sustainment and the vehicle of 2035

These topics will provide insight into:

• The increasing complexity of modern military vehicle design
• The integration of power, digital systems, sensors and communications
• The role of autonomy and human–machine teaming in future vehicles
• How open architectures can support rapid technology insertion
• The challenges of sustaining and upgrading military vehicles into the future
