MotionLogic Named Finalist in Robotics Program

Australian manufacturing analytics start-up MotionLogic has been named one of seven finalists in Propel-AIR 2026, putting it in contention for a month-long residency with MassRobotics in Boston.

The Newcastle-based company was selected for the Australian AI and robotics sprint, delivered by the ARM Hub AI Adopt Centre, with its computer vision platform designed to identify unproductive movement on factory floors.

MotionLogic argues manufacturers lose significant productive time through activities including waiting, repositioning, reloading and excessive movement between tasks, much of which is not captured by conventional reporting.

In the company’s own evaluation footage, about 70 per cent of observed work time was classified as non-value-add motion.

MotionLogic principal Alex McClung, a robotics designer and machine learning practitioner, said the company had developed an “optical interpretation layer for ergonomics and productivity."

“It interprets the structure and events of manufacturing operations, looking at how items move over space and time,” McClung said.

The platform uses fixed cameras to analyse worker movement as pose-tracked data before classifying each moment as task-time or non-task-time.

It can analyse activities ranging from preparation and repositioning to tool-on time, while also assessing safety indicators including joint angles and material-tool interactions to identify potential ergonomic and injury risks.

MotionLogic is targeting large-format manufacturers operating across extensive sites, including aircraft manufacturing, shipbuilding and machinery overhaul operations.

The company has already implemented its platform at an ASX-listed business and is beginning deployment with a multinational company.

The Propel-AIR winner will receive a one-month residency at MassRobotics in Boston, providing access to leading robotics businesses and institutions including MIT and Harvard.

Founded by McClung in 2026, MotionLogic is developing its technology to help manufacturers measure productivity and safety while identifying operational inefficiencies that can otherwise remain difficult to detect.
