Premcar puts Chery Stockman to test

Chery Motor Australia has enlisted Australian automotive engineering company Premcar to undertake an extensive local testing and validation program for its upcoming Stockman ute.
The appointment will see Premcar assess the Stockman against Australian roads, driving conditions and customer expectations ahead of the new ute’s planned local arrival in late 2026.
The Stockman will be Chery’s first ute and represents a significant expansion of the Chinese manufacturer’s Australian product portfolio beyond its rapidly growing SUV range.
Premcar’s program will include assessing Chery’s ride and handling tuning across a variety of Australian conditions before the vehicle reaches showrooms.
Australia is regarded as one of the world’s most demanding markets for ute development, with vehicles expected to perform across conditions ranging from urban roads and highways to worksites and remote off-road environments.
Chery Motor Australia chief operating officer Lucas Harris said working with Premcar demonstrated the company’s commitment to ensuring the Stockman met those local expectations.
“Australia is one of the world’s most demanding ute markets, and we know our customers expect a vehicle that performs confidently across everything from urban streets to highways, construction sites and remote off-road tracks,” Harris said.
“Premcar has an outstanding reputation for engineering and vehicle validation, making them the ideal partner to help ensure Stockman is thoroughly tested and validated for Australian conditions before it reaches our customers.”
Harris said the partnership was also an example of Chery investing locally as it develops vehicles for Australian drivers.
Premcar brings three decades of experience in engineering, testing and developing vehicles for Australian conditions and has delivered local vehicle programs for numerous global manufacturers.
Premcar CEO Bernie Quinn said Chery had developed specific ride and handling characteristics for the Stockman, with Premcar charged with testing and validating that work locally.
“Chery has gone the extra mile with its first-ever Stockman ute,” Quinn said.
“Chery has created very specific attributes for the Stockman’s ride and handling and we are very pleased to help them test and validate their work in a variety of Australian conditions.”
The Stockman’s arrival will take Chery into Australia’s highly competitive ute market for the first time.
The local engineering and validation program will now continue ahead of that launch, with Chery saying further details about the Stockman will be announced closer to its Australian arrival late this year.
