SME-A seeks interest in crash course

The Society of Mobility Engineers – Australasia (SME-A) is seeking expressions of interest for a five-day training course designed to develop skills in motor vehicle crash investigation and reconstruction.
The Introduction to Crash Investigation and Reconstruction Course will be delivered by Delta-V Experts on behalf of SME-A and is aimed at people involved with motor vehicle collisions through investigation, damage assessment or litigation.
The course will provide participants with practical knowledge to effectively and efficiently examine, record and interpret the results of a collision.
Participants will learn how evidence can be used to develop opinions on factors including vehicle speed, direction of travel and the movements of vehicles and people involved in a crash.
The program will also examine the probable contribution of human, vehicle and environmental factors to collisions, providing participants with a broader understanding of the elements that need to be considered during crash investigation and reconstruction.
Delivered over five days, the course will cover a range of subject areas relevant to technical crash investigation and collision reconstruction.
The training could be particularly relevant to engineers and other professionals whose work brings them into contact with vehicle collisions, including those involved in investigating crashes, assessing vehicle damage or dealing with technical issues arising during litigation.
Rather than setting a course date immediately, SME-A is initially calling for expressions of interest from prospective participants.
Once sufficient interest has been received, the Society plans to arrange a suitable date and week for Delta-V Experts to deliver the program.
The course will cost $1500 for SME-A members and $2000 for non-members.
Group discounts will also be available for organisations registering three or more participants, potentially providing an opportunity for businesses whose staff regularly deal with vehicle collision investigations to undertake the training together.
The program forms part of SME-A’s professional development and training activities for people working across mobility engineering and related technical fields.
Those interested in undertaking the Introduction to Crash Investigation and Reconstruction Course are being encouraged to lodge an expression of interest with SME-A.
The Society is also inviting enquiries from those wanting to discuss the crash investigation course or other training programs currently being developed.
Course dates will be determined once SME-A has received sufficient expressions of interest to proceed with the program.
