RULES
Formula SAE-A 2026 Rules Addendum v1.3.1 [Updated 06 August]
1. The FSAE USA SES and Rules ( F.10.3) do not differentiate between cell type. They require that the structure in the module take loads around the cells, not through them. There is freedom of design in how the cells are secured. Further to our response to your query #27, you just need to ensure that any structure you have within the cells and around the pouches is sufficient to support the specified g loads.
2. We do not believe that any mock substitute can fully reflect the behaviour under loads and structural characteristics of the cell as manufactured. Therefore, you would need to use actual cells in any test to prove compliance with the rules. In any tests or calculations of loads in an impact situation, we require that the allowable loads as stated in the FSG rules EV.5.5.11 are not exceeded. (Each cell must not exceed 0.05 MPa in shear and 1.0 MPa in compressive stress, calculated using 80% of the large face of the cell).
Any structure supporting the cells and the module structure must also meet the load requirements per the FSAE Rules.

STRUCTURAL EQUIVALENCY SPREADSHEETS
2026 Structural Equivalency Steel Tube v1.3
2026 FSAE Structural Equivalency Monocoque Hybrid Aluminium v1.4
IMPORTANT!
Please note that a mistake has been identified in the SES for monocoque structures. In the F8 section, Box AP 93 incorrectly refers to Clause F.7.3.3. It should refer to Clause F.7.2.3 to correlate to the 2026 Rules.
